about

"This collection, written mainly to feature the bağlama saz and doumbek, was the first of a series of concept recordings wherein I would like to broaden my musical horizons, in a sense which mirrors the visual horizons one may hear upon listening to the music itself.

My first substantial, recorded forays into the world of hand percussion and saz alike, this self-produced collection serves a purpose for me in that it brings me ever nearer to where I would like to be as a musician.

Given the name 'The Silkfinder Project', I would like to reinstate the values of exploration and wonder which were found by both East and West alike during the trade boom of the Silk Road era. The trade routes bridged a very hindering gap between worlds, and I like to believe that much of what we know of music today may have been born in such times.

Influences for this album consisted mainly of Eastern musical sources - be it Arabic music, Mongolian folk music, and sounds from the Buddhist regions as well. As a person of Western European ancestry, I feel that the modern era and its collective knowledge of global music brings me on adventures that many of my ancestors may have missed out on due to continental claustrophobia.

I humbly and sincerely thank you for your time, dear listener."

Atmosphere, literally, is everything.

With a new era in my life beginning, I've recently settled into the concept of creating a series of themed audial soundscapes to paint a picture in the mind of the listener. This begins now...
